Andrea has a degree in Biology (2012) from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Colombia) and a MSc in Limnology and Marine Sciences (2015) from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM, Mexico). She was awarded the best master's thesis of the program with a study about the CO2 production in a tropical water body, the Alchichica lake (Mexico). Currently, Mariana is enrolled from January-2021 in the PhD Program on Marine Sciences and Limnology at UNAM. She is carrying out her PhD thesis at the UNAM and CSIC-MNCN on anaerobic methane oxidation in lakes, studying the main constraints of the DAMO process in lake sediments.
